DataScope recently teamed up with PSI Global to host a Charity Golf Day at the prestigious K Club in Dublin last week. We’re thrilled to announce that, together, we raised over €21,000 for suicide prevention charity Teac Tom!
The event brought together almost 100 golfers, including key customers from across the Irish Data Centre industry, for a day of golf, networking, and community spirit, all in support of a cause close to home for both businesses.
Why We Did It
Mental health has come into sharper focus in recent years, but it hits especially close to home in the construction sector. Construction work comes with its own unique pressures, from time away from loved ones and long hours to the strain of managing tight budgets and deadlines.
So, it’s no surprise that suicide rates among construction workers are reported to be 3–4 times higher than the national average, while research in Ireland has found that 22% of male construction workers have experienced suicidal thoughts, and 6% have attempted suicide.
These figures highlight why having access to the right support, at the right time, matters so much, and why DataScope and PSI Global wanted to use this event to bring the industry together, start conversations around men’s mental health, and raise vital funds for an incredible cause.
About Teac Tom
Teac Tom, also known as the Thomas Hayes Trust, provides vital mental health and suicide intervention services, supporting individuals and families across Ireland when they need it most. The charity’s work is a lifeline for many, offering a 24/7 helpline, mental health awareness talks, and corporate days for workplaces. Teac Tom has an open-door policy so they can be accessible to everyone in the community.
The charity was founded in 2014 by Angela Hayes, after she lost both her husband and her 19-year-old son, Thomas, to suicide. Determined that no other family should endure that pain, she built an organisation dedicated to supporting those who need it most, one that has since grown into a lifeline for communities across Kilkenny and beyond.
A Day to Remember
On the day, participants had the chance to compete, connect, and contribute to a cause that matters. Beyond the golf itself, the event was an opportunity for professionals in the Data Centre industry to come together and open up conversations around a topic that isn’t talked about nearly enough.
The Result
Thanks to the generosity of everyone who took part, sponsored, and donated, we managed to raise over €21,000 for Teac Tom, funds that will go directly towards the charity’s mental health and suicide intervention services.
