Tight Logistics Requirements
ocated in the centre of Clapham, the project has extremely tight storage and logistics capacity. This meant that all vehicle movements to site needed to be meticulously managed, as well as storage allocation, and what activity could safely take place in restricted areas without impacting the local area, all while keeping the programme on track.
In particular, if the limited site storage wasn’t managed effectively, this could affect the capacity to accept inbound deliveries on time, which would have a knock on-effect in the local area.
On a project of this nature, it would be challenging to discuss location of works and exclusion zones without a visual representation that is updated and managed consistently. With space and capacity at such a premium, it is vital that all trades are crystal clear on what works have been agreed and who is working in each area every day.
The Solution
The team use DataTouch to mark out storage areas, access points, exclusion zones and work activities on interactive site drawings in DataTouch to help visualise where restricted areas are, who is working where, and what activities have been agreed at a glance.
Prior to a DABs meeting, all contractors are required to specify where they will be working in the software by marking up their work areas in DataTouch. This means that DABs meetings are now no longer than 15 minutes long and are focused on critical activities only and issue resolution.
The team also use the software to plan, log and agree usage of all onsite storage, to ensure it is aligned with deliveries that have been accepted in the delivery management system.

A new standard for daily site co-ordination
DABs meetings are no longer a silo of information. All agreed activity shared in the report are now used by the subcontractors and communicating with their team to ensure all agreed activity is communicated effectively across the workforce in safe-starts and briefings to ensure that the whole team remain aligned on agreed work activity.
With a robust process in place, supported by software that makes it simple to manage, the team have the confidence that subcontractors are clear on expectations that all planned daily activity is logged and agreed. It means that the team are now laser focused on how the limited space is used at every part of the project, and have a digital log of everyone’s commitment to it. In turn this has driven a significant culture change.
Subcontractors are now more accountable for their own areas of responsibility. DataTouch has not only digitalised the DABs meeting, it has enacted changes in behaviour. This way of working empowers them as much as us
